Review - Imperial Palace Poker Room

Total Rating: 3.20

Room Quality Rating: 2
The Imperial Palace poker room is not much to look at, but it offers some very good player comps and freebies.

Located on the second floor of the Imperial Palace casino, the Imperial Palace (IP) poker room looks like it was put together in a weekend (and in actuality it was). There is a manager's desk, and a velvet rope surrounding the tables.

Fortunately, the IP spent some money on the things that matter. The poker room has brand new poker tables that are surprisingly nice (some of the nicest felt in Vegas).

However, the nice poker tables don't make up for the ad hoc assembly of the poker room. In its present condition, the IP poker room can't compare with other Las Vegas card rooms in terms of atmosphere.

Competition Rating: 5
These players are horrible!

The Imperial Palace poker room consistently has the easiest competition I have ever played against. In fact, the players are so bad that it has been tough for me to win there.

The players will call anything, and it's common for every single person to be in the pot. It's tough for hands like pocket jacks to hold up in a multi-way pot with 10 players. When I raise pre-flop, nobody folds.

The Imperial Palace hosts the kind of game that is perfect for a new to average player. However, when you have a better understanding of the game, you will out-think yourself and lose to the crazy beginner players that the Imperial Palace attracts.

The Imperial Palace is a great place for a beginner because the stakes are low and the competition is easy.

Dealer Rating: 2
The Imperial Palace dealers are pretty bad.

Most of them are really young and inexperienced. Because the room opened up so quickly this past summer, I don't think the management was able to be very selective.

Cocktail Rating: 5
The waitresses are definitely above average, and the service is quick.

Most of the IP waitresses are pretty and young. The cocktail waitresses are actually called "Palace Princesses", and they IP has a reputation for hiring very good looking women.

Usually there is only one girl working the poker room, but when most of the tables of filled up, there are two girls. There is a bar that's not too far from the tables, so the drinks tend to arrive fast.

Management Rating: 2
The management is nice but unorganized.

They tend to have difficulty seating groups of players at the same table, even when seats are open for everyone at the table. The management is also bad about table changes. On more than one occassion I have asked for a table change, and when a seat opened up at a different table, the management filled the seat with a player on the list, rather than me. Because I am already seated, with a table change request already made, I should have been given the choice of moving to the open seat.

Comps Rating: 5
The Imperial Palace poker room offers some excellent comps and freebies.

- $3 per hour in comp credit. For each hour that you spend playing poker, the IP will add $3 to your player card. This money can be used anywhere in the hotel for anything: rooms, liquor, food, gift shop, etc. This is the most generous comp dollar reward of any poker room in Vegas. Don't forget to sign up for your player card as soon as you sit down.

- Free Cookies and Sandwiches: At least once every hour or so a variety of cookies and sandwiches are brought out to the poker room for players. Both are pretty good, and both are totally free.

- Free Restaurant Vouchers: The poker room offers free buffet coupons and free dining in the IP restaurants to players who hit a variety of hands from 4 of a kind, straight flushes, etc. Best of all, the house doesn't rake the pot an extra dollar to pay for these incentives, so it's a really good deal.
