Online Poker Strategy. Poker for beginnersTheory Your strategy is not perfect if you don’t consider your position at the table. In fact there are two different strategies for late and early positions. Also note that it works only at preflop. At the flop you should reconsider your position. Now there are three positions that demand different strategies: first to act, middle and last to act. So, what are the best and the worst? The last is definitely the best. Because only in this position you have all possible information about your opponents. The first is the worst. That’s why it’s called “under the gun” (UTG). Those in late position have more information and as a result can play weaker hands: pocket aces is not the only one hand they raise with. We can also say that the Blinds are obligated to the game. If you’re in the Blind – be more selective. In fact, we can verbalize that idea as follows: “The earlier your position the tighter should be your game”. Now, an example: You’re the first to act:
Now, let’s suppose, that you’re heads-up because everyone but you and one player folded. It’s obvious that he has a better hand than you do. You can hope that you’ll hit at the flop. But, the worst thing is that you’ll have to act before this raiser “all hand long”. |
